Patrick Saint-Denis, Zone confortable
“The idea of “musical process” is only a pretext which allows me once again to make visible what really interests me: the realization of a hidden strength which is released only by a chaotic bearing away of the material, the rituality of its destruction as a discursive element and a carrier of form, and its resurrection as incandescent material, thus beyond all control.”
Fausto Romitelli
Zone confortable is the second work of a triptych. While the first work (Chronique) integrated eclectic material, this one deals with a much more restricted environment.
I started from a simple idea, i.e. the repetition and progressive degradation of material. An homophonic and rhythmic formula, derived from recordings of barking dogs, is shifted down continuously throughout the piece. By insistence and accumulation, the austere or more roister qualities of the barking dog's sequences are celebrated and put to the foreground in order to serve large-scale narrative strategies.
